Pyloric Stenosis

What you may ask is Pyloric Stenosis? Well, it is a condition that causes severe projectile vomiting in the first few months of life. There is narrowing (stenosis) of the opening from the stomach to the first part of the small intestine known as the duodenum, due to enlargement of the muscle surrounding this opening (the pylorus), which spasms when the stomach empties. Infantile pyloric stenosis is typically managed with surgery.
And that is exactly what happened to Cam.
We went to the ER on Thursday night here in Kyle and were told Cam had a virus and that we should feed him Pedialyte. O.k. All day Friday he drank only Pedialyte, so at 4am on Saturday when Cam started throwing up blood, I knew it was more than a mere virus.
Saturday morning found us in the Acute care clinic run by our pediatrician's office. The PA tested Cam's vomit and found it positive for blood and called Dell Children's. We were admitted at 10:30 am.
After a long day of not being able to feed him, tubes forced down his nose and into his stomach to wash it out with saline, and a 30 minute ultrasound wherein Cam cried; we were finally told that he would need surgery that night for he did have pyloric stenosis. He went into surgery at 7:00 pm and was out by 7:30. The surgery was a success.
Cam was monitored in the hospital all day Sunday and we were released Monday afternoon. Cam was a brave little soul.
It has been a week since we were released from Dell and Cam is doing well. He is nursing well and keeping the milk down. There are occasional little spit-ups but nothing like the vomiting before the surgery.

Happy 1st Valentine's Day Cam

I realized that I have taken far less pictures of Cam than I did of Emma. I don't know if it can be attributed to the fact that there are less photo opportunities with Cam, or that I am just too lazy to go grab the camera when the opportunity presents itself. I did however, buy Emma and Cam a Valentine's outfit and dressed them so that I could capture the moment.

This past weekend we traveled to Grandma and Grandpa's house in Marshall. Grandma and Emma made Valentine's cupcakes.

Emma and Cam then both enjoyed the treats.

Emma's 2nd Birthday

With the new baby, I am a little slow in posting new pictures and updating everyone on recent events. The biggest event, that I have failed to report on is that Emma had her birthday and she turned 2.
Grandma O'Neil made her a Cookie Monster cake, which was oh so delicious, and she had a bouquet of balloons. Terence and I tried to make her birthday special despite the fact that we did not throw her a party. Emma we will make up for it next year.

Christmas 2011

With the arrival of Cam so close to Christmas, I had to get all my shopping and decorating done before we went to the hospital. Emma celebrated Christmas twice. One at Grandma and Grandpa O'Neil's house and one at our house when she returned the day after Christmas. Santa brought her a tricycle which she has had to ride every day since. She also got lots of books and dvd's along with a rocking (horse) bear, clothes, a kitchen and a giant cookie monster puzzle.

Cam had some visitors over the holiday weekend. He met his great aunt and uncle Anne and Lynn and hung out with his uncle Robert. He took some naps with Grandpa O'Neil and got a helping hand with a bottle from his big sister.

Campbell David

Campbell David was born on December 19, 2011, at 1:10 in the afternoon. He weighed 7 pounds 9 ounces and was 21 inches long.

Mommy and Cam spent the first two of three nights in the hospital without Daddy b/c Daddy was taking care of big sister Emma. Emma did come and visit Mommy and Cam at the hospital everyday.

Grandma and Grandpa and Aunt Alicia arrived on Wednesday and were able to spend a couple of hours with Campbell before they took Emma back home to stay with her.

On Thursday, it was time to go home. So Cam got into his going-home-outfit and impressed all the nurses with how handsome he looked.

Welcome home Cam. Now the Hall family is complete!
